Exterior Crack Repair
Exterior crack repair addresses the foundation wall from outside — the right call in specific situations, and a core service CrackStop performs regularly.
How Exterior Crack Repair Works
Exterior crack repair involves excavating alongside the foundation wall to expose the crack from the outside. The crack is cleaned, filled, and a waterproofing membrane is applied directly to the exterior face of the wall to prevent water infiltration.
This approach addresses both the structural crack and the waterproofing layer on the outside of the wall simultaneously. In situations where the exterior membrane has failed — or where interior access would require significant disruption to a finished basement — exterior repair is often the more practical route.
Exterior repair is not a fallback or a secondary option. It is a core service that CrackStop recommends when it is the right fit for the home and the problem.

When Exterior Repair Often Makes Sense
- Heavily finished basement — interior access requires drywall or flooring removal
- The exterior waterproofing membrane has failed and needs replacement
- Exterior access is clear — no decks, patios, or obstructions
- Crack location or type is better addressed from outside
- Homeowner prefers no interior disruption
- Multiple issues on the exterior wall face
- Wall condition warrants external inspection and treatment
- Permit or site conditions favour exterior approach
When Interior Repair May Be the Better Fit
- Exterior access is restricted — decks, patios, fences, or tight clearances make excavation impractical
- Unfinished basement where interior access is straightforward and low-cost
- Budget constraints where interior injection is significantly less expensive
- Crack type and location respond well to interior injection approach
We'll assess your specific situation and tell you honestly which approach makes more sense for your home.
